PLEASE DO NOT USE GOOGLE CHROME FOR RICE VIRTUAL LAB PROGRAMS, IT DOES NOT WORK. USE FIREFOX (below version 52), FIREFOX ESR*, AND/OR INTERNET EXPLORER. THANK YOU.

Rice Virtual Lab issues:

Java Firefox and IE blocks the websites that run the Rice virtual lab for Psych248 class: a window is popping up saying that there is an issue with java running the website.

Solution:

1)Copy the links of the Rice websitesyou would like to log in to and that are blocked:

http://www.onlinestatbook.com/

http://onlinestatbook.com/

http://cnx.org/

(YOU MUST INCLUDE the TRAILING / or there will be problems!!!  And it is best to include both versions of http://onlinestatbook.com/ , both with and without “www.” )

2)In Control Panel open the Java applet

3)Go to the Security Tab

4)In the "Exception Site List" section, click on the "Edit Site List" button

5)Click the Add button

6)In the Exception Site List pop-up box, click the Add button the website link that you copied

7)Next to the Red Asterisk, paste in the first website

http://www.onlinestatbook.com/

Press the Enter key and click on "Continue" in the Security Warning pop-up box.

8)Click the Add button again

9)Next to the Red Asterisk, paste in the second website

http://onlinestatbook.com/

Press the Enter key and click on "Continue" in the Security Warning pop-up box.

8)Click the Add button again

9)Next to the Red Asterisk, paste in the third website

http://cnx.org/

Press the Enter key and click on "Continue" in the Security Warning pop-up box.

10)In the Exception Site List pop-up box, press the "Okay" button

11)The Security Tab should now look like the following image and you should be able to run the Rice Virtual Lab

ALSO, there is a youtube video that can walk you through much of this.  See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-RgdD0lv9w

*Firefox has dropped support for Java, beginning on version 52.0. Firefox Extended Support Release, however, supports Java.
